In Lexington, Kentucky, 12.7 cm (5 inches) of snow was recorded by 3:30 PM EST (8:30 PM GMT), breaking the previous daily snowfall record of 7 cm (2.8 inches) set in 1979, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Louisville.
In Louisville, Kentucky, by 3:15 PM local time (8:15 PM GMT), 19.5 cm (7.7 inches) of snow had fallen, surpassing the previous record for January 5th of 7.6 cm (3 inches) set in 1910.
Topeka, Kansas has also seen significant snowfall, with 30 cm (12 inches) recorded, making it the fourth highest single-day snowfall total there. The NWS reports that the snow is "still coming down strong."
